    QUALIFICATIONS

As a mission-driven organization, we welcome applicants from a diverse range of experiences, from lived to studied. Regardless of whether you possess an academic degree (or four), have previously worked in non-profit leadership, or have always called Kentucky home, we welcome you to apply for this position. That being said, we have a few non-negotiables which will be important for you to meet:

o Intimate Knowledge of, and experience with, the LGBTQ+

Community. We are a queer organization, by and for our queer

audiences. We desire an Executive Director with a strong knowledge of, and commitment to, the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion — not as buzzwords or checklist items, but as criteria to live by.

o Powerful, eloquent communication skills. Beginning as a publication, Queer Kentucky has always prioritized written communication in our work. But as we evolve, the in-person communication is just as important. We desire an Executive Director who can get their points across, synthesize difficult and complex topics, and use specific terminology when describing specific communities. A portfolio of writing or speaking, while not required, will be a massive leg-up for your application.

o Ability to visualize a bright future. Activism is hard. Being the face of an activist organization can be exhausting. We are looking for an Executive Director who can not only visualize a brighter future for queer

Kentuckians, but strive tireless toward it. You are not alone in this work, but you will be the one showing up when nobody else wants to. Above all, the ability to hope relentlessly, work rigorously, and bring community together around a concrete vision is vital to this role.

    ● Not-Required-But-Nice-To-Have:

o Business Acumen: if you have a track record of growing financially sustainable organizations, whether through commercial means or

    fundraising, that is a plus.

o Personal Stake in the State of Kentucky: our readership reaches farther than the boundaries of the Bluegrass state, but Kentucky is our heartland. An Executive Director with personal ties to the state would be a plus.

o Legal, Political, or Previous Non-Profit Work: we welcome applicants of all backgrounds, though experience with editorial, legal, political, or non-profit work will give you a leg-up on the work ahead of you.

To apply: Email a resume and cover letter to careers@queerkentucky.com
